Update - Jul-Dec'10

I N D I A   :      July - Sept 2010

One of the areas with critical, even tragic water shortages is northwest India. During July 2010, we conducted more than a dozen meetings with key officials in Central Government with responsibility for Water in Rural & Urban sectors in New Delhi and travelled to Jaipur in the State of Rajasthan to meet up with decision makers in the Water & Energy Departments.

Next stop in our busy tour was the State of Gujarat where we met with Local & District Government officals and NGOs in Ahmedabad, Jamnagar, Mithapur, Bhuj & Khavda.

Suns River's solar desalination technology was welcomed as a key component in meeting the water needs of the Rural communities in these regions. Of particular interest was the fact that Suns River stills can be sized to meet needs from one family to an entire village. The North & West Regions of India are blessed with large areas of open, desert, or semi-desert land which positions it perfectly for our solar desalination technology.

We then flew to Mumbai where we met with a 'Green Biodiversity' investment group as well as a multi-national bluechip company. The key government, academic and industrial leaders that we contacted & met during this extensive business tour are keen to become one of the pioneers in providing fresh water using 99% solar energy in the desperate regions under their management & stewardship.

In October, Hill Kemp, CEO attended the Innovative Water Seminar organised by the Texas Water Development Board in San Antonio, Texas, USA.

Presentations from key officals & industry experts included trends in desalination costs and projections for exponential growth in the coming decade. These sessions emphasized the fluid nature of both the market and technology for desalination. Niches are being created for new technologies such as Suns River solar distillation desalination and other innovations reviewed in San Antonio.

We maintain contact with many of the key industrial, academic and government leaders in this ever changing marketplace.

Tests in late 2010 at our West Texas research site continued to refine both design and material selection for the Suns River solar still. With the publication of our second patent application, Suns River is poised to bring this technology and critically needed 'fresh water' to market.

Our testing indicates that there is a variety of choices of materials and many of them meet full requirements for “green” construction. Both construction and operation are simple. Nearly all energy is provided by renewable sources. This means water should become available for both concentrated and dispersed populations now drinking water that would not meet the discharge requirement of the US EPA.
