Suns River were proud to be part of two UK Trade & Investment Missions to Singapore - Malaysia and India commencing 24th January 2010 supported by the Northwest International Trade Team based in Manchester, UK.
In Kuala Lumpur , we were honoured to be hosted by Mr Boyd McCleary - the British High Commissioner for Malaysia.
The Seminar Mission to India titled “UK low carbon solutions for a global low carbon future” were held in New Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata from 7th – 12th February 2010. Each event was packed with enthusiastic delegates. We were inundated with enquiries from prospective partners keen on marketing the Suns River Solar Distillation process to provide fresh water into the rural areas of India.
India faces acute water shortages. Ground water supplies around 80% of water for domestic use in rural India. Ground water quantity and quality are declining and deteriorating rapidly. 70% of the surface water in India is polluted due to uncontrolled dumping of chemical and industrial waste, fertilizers and pesticides.
While ‘traditional diseases’ such as diarrhea continue to take a heavy toll, the World Bank estimates that more than 20% of communicable diseases in India are because of unclean water. 66 million people in India are at risk due to excess fluoride and 10 million due to excess arsenic in groundwater. Bacterial contamination of water is a widespread problem. In most cities in India, water is supplied for only 2-8 hours a day.
Suns River provides mineral-free water using Solar Distillation. It removes heavy metals such as lead, arsenic, and mercury from the feed water, as well as hardening agents like calcium and phosphorous. Solar Distillation is the preferred water purification method in developing nations especially where the risk of waterborne disease is high, because it removes bacteria and viruses from affected drinking water.
